Is it the Indian Culture ?

A year ago, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made a remark on malnourishment in India – a ‘National Shame’. Hardly after a year, has the same person expressed his deep concern and agony with a little suffocation?  I am talking about an emerging culture of India; obviously it’s a global shame and a humiliation to humanity. A young pharmacist was raped and murdered wildly in the capital territory. Immediately after this incident another disaster occurred in the same place where a man beast tortured and raped a 5 year girl – that was again a violent outrageous attack. The most disturbing fact is that the victims as well as acquitted are minor in various cases. Whilst we proud about our ‘demographic dividend’ in one side, it is our bad fate to lament over the abysmal youth.
Why don’t our people irrespective of young dare to involve in sever crimes. There is no point in blaming the West. Can anyone substantiate that the so called ‘rape and molestation’ is a western phenomenon. Absolutely no! “Based on reported rapes there were 24 times as many rapes per capita in the United States in 2011 as there were in India. I doubt many Indians would agree with the idea that those statistics reflect reality. There are surveys, personal stories and common experiences of harassment and sexual violence that suggests the magnitude of the problem is far greater and more pervasive, but there is little systematic data”.
Yes, it’s a global problem. Recently a sensational gang rape case in the football-mad town of Steubenville, Ohio was reported by the New York Times.  There may be some draw backs in the adapted western dressing style, which sometimes provoke feeble minds of Indians. A tradition that subordinate women, unprofessional police force, low rate of conviction and over activism of judiciary are remain a hurdle.  Decline of morality of the Indian family, sensation making approach of media, projecting vulgarity and showing women as a sexual object, way of dressing, overuse of mobiles etc. are some other issues addressed by common people.  It is not the appearance but the attitudes we should learn from others. The spirit of respecting fellow beings, love nation and preserve culture that are the responsibilities of a ideal citizen. Unfortunately many of the blinds can’t recognize even their mothers, sisters and children. Effective implementation of laws, intensive awareness and incorporation of gender specifics in curriculums can play a significant role in achieving a paradigm shift in this regard. We should learn from the saying ‘Charity begins at home’. A famous quote in Malayalam goes like this.
“Cheruppakangalilulla sheelam marakkumo manushyanulla kalam
Kaaraskarathil karu palilittaal kaalenthara kaypu shamippathundo?”

While encapsulating, it is at the childhood people write their life scripts.  In other way, people decide their destiny based on their childhood experiences and learning.  if we can color a person’s child hood his future will be colorful and if we stain a child, he will become a ridiculous character. Hence it is our parents and teachers are responsible for the action of every individual. Anyhow we should put our brain together to discover a panacea to solve multitude of heinous crimes.
