Lead Light Mentorship Program
Lead Light is a mentorship program designed for students those who are aspiring to achieve meaningful things in their life amidst limitations. It is a fact that many students from the socially and economically weaker sections fail to recognize the outer world opportunities due to lack of exposure to the global environment, failing to identify the aptitude, absence of proper guidance and mentoring, financial constraints, and various other reasons.  But, certainly that would not have been a hurdle, if they were guided properly. Lead Light Mentorship scheme envisions provide mentor support to such students.
Who is a Lead Light Mentor?
Any individual those who feel confident and comfortable to guide, mentor, and inspire an individual can join as mentor. Persons with relevant professional experience are preferable.  Beyond, it’s a commitment to developing another person’s career and well-being. It’s purely volunteering. At the same time, mentors get a unique opportunity to change the life trajectory of a child forever, training and on-going support to strengthen as mentors, and a network of similarly motivated and talented individuals to connect over a special shared experience (MMI)
Who is a Lead Light Mentee?
A mentee is a school or college students (Most probably in the age group of 15-20) with a burning desire of making some meaningful achievements in their life. Though they have the skills to grab success, they require effective advice and guidance to stream line their career. Limitations like social backwardness, financial constraints, lack of guidance and support etc. may cloud their future.
What we expect from a Lead Light Mentor?
Every Lead Light mentor will be allotted with at least one mentee based on their profile and suitability to the mentee. Aptitude/interest of the students and qualification/profession of the mentors are the core criteria for allotment.  A mentor must act as a Model, Motivator and Mentor for his/her mentee. It cannot be too superficial to say that the future of a mentee is at the hand of a mentor. The mentor shall be in touch with the mentee at least twice or once in a month and whenever they require any assistance.  The mentorship program aims at providing career guidance, counselling, networking, and various other ways where the mentee can grow up to his potentials.
How a Mentor Should Proceed
After allotting the mentor/mentee, both the parties will be intimated. The mentee will call or send communication to the mentor seeking his/her convenient time to talk. It is preferable to call back when you feel comfortable. We prefer the Mentor to contact the mentee. Frequency of the call can be twice in a week, once in a week, once in two weeks, and once in a month. We can use all the available medium (Mobile, internet etc.) for communication. It would be highly appreciable, if you can visit the mentee once in a year.  The period of mentorship is purely on the convenience of the mentor. They can withdraw from the commitment whenever they feel, but please let us know, so that we can assure that someone is taking care of him.  However, we love if you can mentor them at least during their studies.
Tips for the Mentor

  • Value the mentee as a person, Develop mutual trust and respect and Maintain confidentiality
  • Talk about less personal things in the beginning and ask open-ended questions
  • Help the mentee solve his or her own problem, rather than give direction
  • Focus on the mentee's development, and resist the urge to produce a clone
